來自日本的酒井充子小姐，原是北海道新聞記者，1998年於台灣觀光時，在九份遇到一位年邁的台灣人用流利的日文與她交談，並詢問她：「妳知不知道我以前的老師現在在哪裡？」就這樣，酒井辭了工作，一句中文都不會說的她，花了七年時間，探訪台灣日語世代的人們。台灣在二二八事件後，施行了三十八年的戒嚴令，許多台灣人受到嚴酷的壓制，台灣話、日語的使用都被禁止。如今，透過酒井的採訪，這群走過騷動時代人們的聲音，終於能夠被社會傾聽，以日語重新訴說自己的生命故事，也重現了另一段被遺忘的歷史。

During the fifty-one years of colonization, people who received the education of Japanese, becoming the 'generation of Japanese language'. However, from 1949 onwards, Taiwan was ruled by the Martial Law for 38 years. During this period, many Taiwanese people were devastated by the high-handed policy. Both Taiwanese native languages and Japanese were forbidden. It was not until now, their voices could not be finally heard.
