台灣近代史中，有關白色恐怖的事件不勝枚舉。解嚴前的台灣，只要與統治者想法、立場不同，便會淪為政治犯遭逮捕入獄。1970年彭明敏逃亡瑞典、1972年謝聰敏被捕消息曝光、1979年美麗島事件、1980年初林家血案等，這些事件與相關人士的經歷，在《火線任務》這部劇情式紀錄片（docudrama）當中，透過訪談與珍貴史料，細膩地搬演、重構，挖掘出大歷史中的小故事，爬梳了當事人是如何在層層困難中重獲自由與新生，並透過影片的特殊手法，讓觀眾彷彿再次回到那風聲鶴唳的年代。

In 1960s the rescue of Taiwan political prisoners relied mainly on the political prisoners’ themselves and their relatives. Since 1970s a secret channel to rescue political prisoners was built. After the death of Chiang Kai Shek in 1975, the first representative of Amnesty International Jim Seymour got to Taiwan, to watch an important trial of 8 political prisoners. Since then an international network for saving political prisoners was formed.
